Smoke Detectors are easy to install.  Make sure you select the best location for the widest protection.  Put each detector where smoke will first enter a room.  Don’t forget rooms with mechanical equipment like clothes dryers and heating systems.

Bedroom Ceilings          Bedroom Hallways          Dining and Living Rooms          Utility Rooms

In Hallways and narrow areas, be sure to center the detector on the ceiling.

Avoid ceiling corners.  In a fire, smoke will curl up along the corner and it might not set off the detector.

If you mount the detector  on the wall, make sure it is at least 12 inches below the ceiling.  Wall mounting can be used when you cannot mount the unit to the ceiling.
