Our Public Fire Safety Program is designed to incorporate fire safety skills into routine habit. Stop, Drop and Roll is only one of many skills that children practice, so that when a child is faced with the danger of fire, practice replaces panic.
Our team has received recognition from numerous agencies throughout South Carolina and members of the team are very active in the South Carolina Fire and Life Safety Education Association, the South Carolina Medical University’s Children’s Hospital, the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children program, and The National Fire Safety Council.
Our Program is in partnership with the Georgetown School District and we routinely visit the city schools, Maryville Elementary and the Harbor School for Arts and Sciences. The program also works closely with the Georgetown Housing Authority, the Council on Aging and a number of Children Day Care facilities.
While the emphasis of Fire Prevention and Public Education continues throughout the year, the Department opens its doors to all during Fire Prevention Week in October.
During Open House, kids of all ages enjoy Fire Safety skits and demonstrations, an opportunity to see all of the Department’s Equipment, and a chance to ride a special fire truck.

Children enjoy riding a “real” fire truck. This is Education 4, an apparatus specially adapted for children to ride. The men and women of Midway Fire Department designed and modified the truck for their Public Education program, and were kind enough to bring it to our Open House.
