Georgetown, South Carolina

2010 Breast Cancer Awareness

(October 18, 2010) – Don’t be surprised to see a firefighter in pink this week.  Firefighters from the Georgetown City Fire Department will be in pink shirts this week joining fire departments across South Carolina in support of National

Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“By nature firefighters are supportive of health issues,” says Fire Chief Joey Tanner, “but we were excited to join our brothers and sisters in Georgetown and Horry County and the SC Firefighters Association in recognizing the need for prescreening and treatment for breast cancers.”

According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 40, 000 women will die this year alone from breast cancer. Early detection and diagnosis are key factors for cancer survival and the members of the department are urging women to be aware of the potential for breast cancer.

All members of the department will be wearing their pink uniform shirts this week.
