(September 11, 2007) Firefighters of the Georgetown City Fire Department were the subject of appreciation from several groups in Georgetown.
Two groups provided lunch for firefighters marking the sixth anniversary of the terrorism attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania in 2001. The 2007 Class of the Limited X-Posure Club at the Georgetown Campus of Horry-Georgetown Technical College provided pizza and soft drinks. The firefighters were very appreciative of the meal and the recognition.
Earlier, members of the Grand Strand Chapter of Rolling Thunder recognized the Department's firefighters with a plaque for "Loyal Service and Support to the Community". On Saturday September 8th, about fifty members of the bikers club met at the flag pole in front of Station One to make the presentation and meet each of the firefighters.
Rolling Thunder is dedicated to fund raising and support of the nation's POW/MIA. They support local veterans and are involved in community awareness. Nationally the more than 80 chapters of Rolling Thunder work with veteran's organizations to promote awareness, assist sick and injured veterans and introduce legislation for veterans.
