(December 13, 2007) - Georgetown City Fire Department Firefighters tapped their firefighters of the year during the department's annual Christmas Party tonight. B Shift Lieutenant Marc Smith was elected Officer of the Year. A Shift Firefighter Henry Barnes was selected as the Firefighter of the Year. And, Volunteer Firefighter Terry Skidmore was elected Volunteer of the Year.
Smith started with the department in November of 2001. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant in October of 2004 after completing a rigorous Lieutenant's Board of Assessment. Smith is married to Amy Smith and they have a 2 year old Daughter; McKenzie.
Barnes began his career with the department in the mid 1990's, left for a while and returned in August 2003. Henry is also a volunteer firefighter with the Georgetown County Fire Department. He and his wife Chris and have four children.
Skidmore is the Training and Safety Coordinator for Georgetown County Emergency Services and is an EMT Instructor. He also serves as a Paramedic Firefighter for Georgetown County and as a Volunteer for Georgetown City. Terry joined the department in July of 2005. He is married to Amy Skidmore and they have two children; Houston and Allison.
"We are very proud of these gentlemen," said Fire Chief Joey Tanner, "they are hard workers, dedicated to their jobs and clearly the members of the department recognized that and elected them as some of the best in the department."
The members of the department elect the Firefighters of the Year annually. Results of the election are always announced at the Department's annual Christmas party.
