Life Safety Achievement Award

"It's great to see these programs are working and it's a real honor to those who do all the work, the fire fighters and officers of the department"

The department first earned the award in 1998 and has each year since.  The Award is presented by the Residential Fire Safety Institute.  In making the announcement, RFSI director Roy L. Marshall said "Experience tells us that fire prevention activity and public education can significantly reduce life and property loss from residential fires.  Prevention and education are very cost effective compared to the traditional approach of relying on fire suppression.  The Achievement award recognizes fire department for their fire prevention efforts and encourages them to continually improve those efforts"

According to RFSI Georgetown is one of 769 fire departments in the United States, Canada, Italy, Japan and Greece to receive the 2005 award.
