Thunderstorms, by their very nature, bear watching as they approach.  Strong winds, lightning, hail, and heavy rainfall.  Thunderstorms are caused by warm and cold air masses colliding.  Typically, when these conditions are present, the National Weather Service will issue a Thunderstorm Watch meaning you should remain alert to the possible formation of these storms.  When a severe storm approaches, the watch will usually change to a warning, meaning a storm is nearby.

Thunderstorms are capable of minor to severe damage.  In our area we can anticipate thunderstorms primarily during the spring and summer.  Heat from the sun during the day easily causes storms to form in the late afternoon.  Though rare, thunderstorms are possible during the fall and winter and even while snow is falling.

A Watch means severe thunderstorms could form in the Watch Area.
