Georgetown City Fire Department
Georgetown, South Carolina

New ISO Rating: 3

May 19, 2006 - Fire Officials announced today the Fire Department's Insurance Service Office rating has improved to a Class 3.  Previously the department's rating was a Class Four.  Less than 3% of fire department's in the nation have a class 3 rating.

Chief Joey Tanner said, "We are proud to have obtained this rating.  This is positive in demonstrating the improvements we have made and the hard work that many have done to get to this point.  Achieving this rating demonstrates our commitment to help lower the insurance premiums for our residents and businesses. However, the new rating points out areas which can be improved and that's what we will be working on, making improvements."

ISO classifies fire protection on a scale from 1 to 10.  Class 1 is the best fire protection and Class 10 is no fire protection.  Georgetown obtained a Class 5 in 1983 and improved to a Class 4 in 1990.  Ratings are based on the performance and training of the Fire Department, Communications and Water Distribution.
