Currently, the Department employs thirty-six full-time and five volunteer personnel. Of the thirty-six, five are in administration, six are departmental officers and twenty-five are shift fire fighters.
Administration personnel, the Chief, Assistant Chief, Fire Marshal, Training Officer, and the Administrative Assistant, work weekdays and are available to you during regular business hours.
Remaining full-time personnel, officers and fire fighters, are split between three 24 hour shifts working every three days. |
|
Each shift works a tour of duty of 24 hours. When they get off of duty they do not report back for work for 48 hours.
While on duty, fire fighters are subject to call at any time. During their tour they train, study and work on equipment. They fix their meals, sometimes wash their clothes and occasionally get some sleep at night in the Station Dormitory. In many ways they are just like a family away from home.
Each fire fighter has one or more duties to perform in the station. It may be cooking, or cleaning, or any other normal household chore necessary to maintain the station, including cutting grass during the summer and washing windows. |
|
When it comes time to respond to an emergency, everything else becomes secondary.
Fire Fighters are assigned to Engine Companies, a group of individuals who ride and work off of a fire truck. In Georgetown, Engine Company 10 has a Captain, Engineer, and Fire Fighter. Engine 20 (the Maryville Company) has a Lieutenant, an Engineer and Fire Fighter. |
